Stylist's Own: How Ki Ukei work with unexpected in dailywear

By Denise Ho

We’re thrilled to introduce Ki Ukei, the independent fashion stylist currently redefining the visual landscape of Tokyo and Shanghai. Effortlessly moving between brand styling and conceptual editorial work, Ki is arguably the most electrifying name in the Tokyo scene right now. By constantly disrupting traditional dressing systems, she crafts a distinct visual language that vibrates between pop culture and futurism.

We sat down with Ki to discuss her creative process, her design philosophy, and how she integrates Kitdo into her experimental world.
1. Can you share a bit about your role as a fashion stylist and what it entails?

I create visual narratives through clothing—every look is a story told in texture, shape, and contrast.

2. How does your personal style reflect your design philosophy and creative vision?

My style is the clash between the refined glamour of fashion and the raw distortion of everyday objects.

3. What’s your tip for making a powerful first impression on clients or at events?

The overall styling matters most, so I make sure my hair and makeup align powerfully with what I wear.

4. In your opinion, which fashion rule should be broken, and why?

The idea that everything has to “flatter” the body—interesting beats flattering, always.

5. What spring styles are you excited to experiment with, both in your projects and personal style?

I’m into asymmetry, deconstructed layers, and anything sheer with unexpected volume.
6. It’s your first time experiencing magnetic fabric clip Kitdo, what‘s your favorite way to use it and how does it enhance your style?

I like to mix Kitdo into my daily wear—it adds that off-beat utility twist that makes a look feel finished but not overdone.

Ki Ukei’s work reminds us that fashion isn't just about clothes—it's about the stories we choose to tell. In a world of "flattering" trends, Ki is a breath of fresh, deconstructed air.

We can't wait to see how she continues to blend the off-beat with the utilitarian, and we hope her vision inspires you to break a few fashion rules of your own. [
