Personal Styling and the Value of Sharing
By Denise Ho
At The Era of Styling in New York, organised by Nove and Styling Consultancy, more than 50 stylists gathered to exchange experiences and explore how personal styling could grow as a business.
For Kitdo’s founder, whose background is in editorial styling, spending time with so many fellow stylists was a welcome change. Working alongside photographers and editors had always been part of the job, while opportunities to connect with other stylists had been surprisingly rare.

Making Space for Personal Styling Conversations
Gatekeeping could explain some of that distance. In an industry where contacts and knowledge were often closely guarded, sharing the details of how someone worked wasn’t always common.
The atmosphere at the event felt more open, with attendees taking a genuine interest in each other’s experiences. Conversations centred on building their businesses while helping more people understand the value of personal styling.
Even through the jet lag, the speakers held the Kitdo founder’s attention. There was plenty worth staying awake for, with ideas to think through long after the talks ended.

Bringing Kitdo Into the Styling Process
A highlight was introducing attendees to Kitdo styling accessories, with each stylist receiving one in their goodie bag.
Styling often involves figuring out how to make a garment sit the way someone imagines. A small adjustment can change the overall look, which is where Kitdo has a practical role to play.
Demonstrating it in person offered a chance to share the story behind Kitdo with people familiar with those everyday dressing challenges. Attendees could then explore ways to style clothes with Kitdo within their own practice.

Keeping the Personal Styling Conversation Going
Beyond the talks, the chance to spend time with fellow stylists made the trip meaningful. There was room to ask questions and compare experiences without feeling the need to hold something back.
The conversations were a reminder of how much there is to learn from others doing similar work, especially when people are happy to share.
